Portfolio

What’s a portfolio if not the story of my career? Considering storytelling is my job, this is how I’d like to share my progress.

Below is a brief overview of each step in my career along with work samples including articles and videos. Followed by my resume.

College/Early Work (2011-2014)

While in college, I had the advantage of working inside WUFT’s newsroom during a pivotal transition toward digital journalism. I was part of the early effort that laid the groundwork for what became the University of Florida’s Innovation News Center, where I received real newsroom experience alongside my coursework.

Aside from reporting and publishing news on WUFT.org, I explored other roles, including anchoring television and radio news segments, which helped me grow comfortable behind the scenes and on air. Drawn to challenge, I also took advanced reporting coursework, an experience that sharpened my instincts and reinforced the importance of accuracy, curiosity and persistence.

My first work in print published July 24, 2012.

UPI – United Press International (2014-2017)

My first job after college came after a long search and proved to be both demanding and formative. I joined United Press International as part of a small, fast-moving team, working under tight deadlines and article-based pay (initially $10 per article, later $12 after a promotion). It was a grind, but it forced consistency, speed and discipline.

To get paid, I had to write. I worked under a fantastic no-nonsense editor who pushed for clarity, accuracy and efficiency. The pace was relentless, beginning with 6 a.m. shifts covering the day’s top news before transitioning into deeper reporting. Over time, the experience sharpened every aspect of my journalism, from reporting and writing to editing and news judgment.

Over the course of my tenure, I wrote more than 4,000 articles, became known for my resourcefulness in sourcing images and context, which led to my promotion to weekend editor. As I gained experience, I focused increasingly on my areas of specialization, including Latin America and global conflict, building subject-matter expertise alongside the speed required in a wire newsroom.

NBC South Florida / Telemundo 51 (2017-2019)

While my time at UPI strengthened my writing and digital reporting, NBC 6 / Telemundo 51 expanded my skill set across nearly every aspect of modern digital journalism. The newsroom was fast, collaborative and electric, operating during a period when NBC was pushing aggressively toward digital-first publishing and a true duopoly model between NBC and Telemundo.

Based in Miami, a deeply bilingual city, I worked in what was then the market’s only fully bilingual newsroom. I was initially hired on the NBC 6 digital team and promoted within months to duopoly digital editor, becoming the team’s sole fully bilingual editor. In that role, I regularly managed content for both NBC 6 and Telemundo 51, balancing two sites, audiences and workflows simultaneously.

My responsibilities spanned digital publishing and broadcast collaboration: managing social media and YouTube, coordinating live streams with the TV newsroom, producing digital-only news briefs alongside anchors, editing video, and covering major local breaking news events, including hurricanes. The experience was demanding and deeply rewarding — one of the most formative chapters of my career and a master class in fast, collaborative, multiplatform journalism. As a bonus, I also made wonderful lifelong friends.

NBC News (2019-2023)

Based in New York City, a lifelong dream, I worked on NBC News’ national desk, covering U.S. and world news for a dozen local broadcast markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Boston, and Chicago.

I managed the national news pages, produced breaking news stories, and fielded urgent requests from local stations, often under intense, high-pressure deadlines. During the coronavirus pandemic, the pace and stakes were especially high, and the role demanded quick editorial judgment, coordination across markets, and precise, timely reporting.

I also worked on national-level initiatives that extended beyond traditional reporting, including social media campaigns and coordinated coverage for events like the Olympics and NBC’s Clear the Shelters adoption drive, ensuring consistent messaging and engagement across multiple local markets.

The experience was intense and deeply formative, which strengthened my skills in national-level journalism and high-pressure newsroom leadership.

Hedgehog Social (2023-2024)

At Hedgehog, I stepped into the startup world to help develop, launch, and support a new social media platform, applying my journalism background in a product-driven environment. The role pushed me to think about storytelling not just as content, but as infrastructure — how language, design, and moderation shape user behavior and community norms.

I worked across editorial, product, and user-facing efforts, collaborating with engineers and designers while also engaging directly with users. That often meant navigating difficult conversations with people deeply skeptical of — or openly hostile toward — journalism and journalists. Drawing on my reporting experience, I approached those interactions with clarity, patience, and fact-based reasoning, helping de-escalate tensions while advocating for responsible communication and platform standards.

The experience strengthened my ability to operate at the intersection of media, technology, and audience trust, and reinforced the importance of thoughtful communication when building digital spaces intended for connection rather than conflict.

Playboy (Temporary contract 2025)

At Playboy, I worked as a contract Sex & Relationships writer, contributing original reporting and commentary during a period of reinvention for the brand’s digital voice. I covered culture, dating, and modern relationships through an inclusive, sex-positive lens, writing stories that emphasized consent, sexual health, emotional maturity, and diversity — often for an audience navigating these topics in real time.

The role combined sharp editorial judgment with performance-driven writing. I produced SEO-optimized stories that resonated with Playboy’s primarily young male readership while collaborating with editors to refine tone and evolve content strategy. Over the course of just a few months, that work helped drive significant audience growth, with weekly page views rising from under 10,000 to nearly 150,000.

The experience was fast, creative and anything but boring — a chance to blend thoughtful reporting with cultural relevance in a space where nuance and clarity mattered.
